I Keep Labor Day Sides Easy When I’d Rather Be Out of the Kitchen

I grew up learning that feeding people well was a way of showing you cared, and that lesson has stayed with me. But becoming a mom taught me something else: a holiday meal doesn’t have to mean spending the entire day in the kitchen.

On Labor Day, I want generous sides that I can make without a production, put on the table for family and neighbors, and then walk away from. These are the recipes I reach for when I want everyone well fed, but I also want to be outside with Lin and Leo, talking, eating, and enjoying the day instead of missing it from the kitchen.
